A Vintage Single From Tired Kid
A new single from Tired Kid brings out a wonderful approach that combines an Americana undertone with a classic rock style and it all gets wrapped up and delivered with such a robust character and this sort of aesthetic that you can't quite look away from, but you also can't quite put your finger on it exactly either.
"Scotch" gives off a lush Vibe and those influences from country to Classic Rock really shine through a lot in different ways.
There are organs that fill the space and give the song an extra layer of atmosphere and this is where some of that classic rock influence comes from meanwhile, the guitars have a certain twang to their tone, and this helps give it that southern feel as well, so everything has this full body did well-rounded soundscape.
There is a contemporary element to the track that I adore and some of the guitar parts are almost like hooks and they're doubled up to sound a little bit fuller and that really works like a charm as well.
Certain things about this track make me think of artists like Elliott Smith for example and artists like that are heavily influenced by classic rock as well but this track has that folk theme that is just embedded in its veins even though it's not sitting right up in the forefront.
The vocals are subtle but give off these memorable melodies and this sort of authenticity in the delivery as well which helps you really get attached to that character that's given off during the track.
I think the guitar work on this track is one of its strong points and this includes a tastefully done clean guitar solo, and during this section, you get that '60s and 70s songwriting feel and that is something that's nailed.
He even throws in a vintage synth solo for a few seconds as well following that guitar part and it just pushes that envelope even more so there's definitely the knowledge that he had this aesthetic in mind when he was building the track.
One of the things that works even more in terms of pushing that vibe, is the music video that accompanies the single because it's even shot with this sort of low-fi old-school camera feel and it just has tired kid, with 70s get up right down to that white turtleneck, walking around town through different parts of parks, going into stores, going to get to restaurants and just sort of living a day in the life of.
So, this whole thing has that theme involved and during it all, it also lyrically bears an honesty that gives you some insight into his personality, and whether or not that comes from a real place or is fictional is unknown.
I only say this because after listening to the song while watching the music video you kind of get the feeling that this maybe a fictional premise.
Either way, the song does an outstanding job of showcasing Tired Kid in terms of his presence as an artist, his ability to create a song that sounds like it's from a different decade altogether, and his ability to create a composition that matches up to what it wasn't his head or probably as close to it as could be.
This was well thought out and there was plenty of attention to detail, but it never loses that character that it began with in the first place.
This track took me to another place altogether and served me a great little escape for a moment in time and I can definitely appreciate that.
Check this track out when you get a chance and watch the video to do it.
