A Beautiful Cover From Hilla Peer
A wonderfully performed cover just released from Hilla Peer manages to come through as heartfelt and warm as the original and this beautifully stripped-down approach with piano and vocals alone lets you get wrapped up not only in the lyrics but the performances of everything as well which gives the song a new sort of character and let's sit wrap itself around you and keep you right where it wants to.
"Beauty and the Beast" is an absolute classic and I'm sure there are many artists that have wanted to cover this track in their own way so when I heard this version I was pleasantly surprised that she did it almost like a love letter to the original.
This version of such a legendary song that's been in our lives for so long is delivered with a passion and a love that makes you want to go back and watch the movies again and that's something that gives it such a welcoming attribute.
One of the things I love about this is that it's just piano and vocal tracks so throughout the song you hear a singular vocal track and then at times, it's doubled up which gives it an added layer for certain sections of the song emphasizing different parts.
This to me was a brilliant idea and changes things up a little bit so that Hilla has her own approach to performing the track.
A song like this is not only difficult to perform and record but you have to be able to stay true to the original in some fashion and this cover accomplishes that with a certain kind of charm as well.
The performance is very personal and one-on-one so it almost feels like a live performance and after listening to it I would love to see her perform this live just her and a piano.
I think that's the best way to ever see it and although this version does have that more stripped-down approach, it really has the same impact as the original did.
Being able to cover a song like this and give it some of your feel and staple the roots and the original version is difficult to do but Hilla makes it seem like it's second nature to her.
This is one of the songs that she may have been singing for years since she was a kid and if so then it must be so wonderful to be able to finally do her own version of it and have it be so real.
I think this was a beautiful tribute and ode to a classic song that has been in a lot of our hearts for a very long time and whoever you are, wherever you go, everybody knows this song.
This was obviously a passion project for the artist and when I listened to it, I had no choice but to go trekking through her previous releases on Spotify, and holy cow, there are so many amazing tracks released starting in 2019 that also a little bit of a different side to her as a person and as an artist.
From full albums to singles, you can swim through these songs all day and find multiple that you fall in love with straight away.
Definitely check out this wonderful cover and take a little trip through her Spotify page to listen to all kinds of other amazing material.
I for one, will be paying a lot of attention to whatever Hilla Peer is releasing next.
