A Massive Single from CEVILAIN

A new release from Cevilian delivers an absolute soiree of heavy rock soundscapes that both break boundaries and bring together a slew of influences to create something truly catchy and sort of iconic, but also with some depth and power behind it, both lyrically and in performance.
"Gluttony//Pieces" has the aesthetic of an alternative rock and emo band from the early 2000s, in a sense. It's not just that alone, but you get that feeling when you start listening to the track as it opens up, focused on vocals and the bopping rhythm that it comes in with.
Because it begins this way, you're automatically pulled right into the vocals and lyrics as well. You want to hear the story unfold and see what else he has to say, but you're also caught up in the almost emotional push that the vocals have in their performance.
When the full band comes in, the drums are slamming into that almost swing time rhythm, and the time signature of it is really a huge allure to the track.
That Bop is something special, and only certain kinds of bands can really pull it off, but these guys do it without a hitch.
The song automatically reminds me of a cross between bands like Queens of the Stone Age and My Chemical Romance, but with their own spin and attributes.
I grew up listening to bands like this, so for me, this track held a little bit of a nostalgic aesthetic. It was welcoming.
The edginess and almost pop undertone come together with such a robust soundscape and feel and the track is absolutely danceable as well which is crazy because it's heavy.
One of the things that works best about this track is the drumming because the drumming not only puts everything right in the pocket, but it gives it a liveliness.
The drums are what let the song feel alive and breathing, and that's amazing to me.
The guitar work is outstanding across the board. I'm just going to say that flat out. There is some lead guitar work here as well as the inventive and clever ref that blew me away to an extent because I loved hearing this level of a guitar solo on a track like this.
This whole thing was put together with a lot of attention to detail and is certainly from a band with a real love for their craft, but when I say that, I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together.
Addicting songs that have hooks, but also have depth and edginess to them. Plus, the musicianship from everyone here is just ridiculous.
The vocalist does an amazing job and gives the track so much personality and character that it just oozes out everywhere.
There are softer sections in the bridge towards the end of the song before the last chorus, where he's doing these softer vocal harmonies, and it gives the song this vast undertone.
At this point in the song, it feels kind of cinematic in its own way, and I loved that about it.
He does great with the sort of emo style, heavier vocals too, and there are some surprises around the corners of this track for sure that I'm not going to give away because you just need to listen to it.
What I will say is that this track is well worth listening to if you love any kind of alternative rock whatsoever.
This is literally for almost everybody. It's heavy enough for anyone into metal or heavy alt rock, it's catchy enough for people who are into the pop side of things, and the performance is almost theatrical in a way so I think that anyone that loves music with a little bit of layers and emotion behind it will dig this track as well.
Like I said, there's almost something for everyone here.
I loved it not just because of the nostalgic aspect but because the songwriting was very well done and the performances had heart and soul along with that bout of theatrical vivaciousness that really gave it extra life.
The energy was also crazy. It was almost like the song was tracked live on the floor to an extent, and everyone involved was just feeding off each other the entire time.
Upon listening to the single, I took a bit of a deep dive into the band's back catalog on Spotify and found a handful of singles released previously to this one that all seem to coincide with each other.
These are all tracks that you need to hear, especially if you dig this one. They each show different sides to some of the songwriting, but never lack the power, energy, or character that all seem to be part of the staple feel and sound of this band.
Take a deep dive into this track and some of their previous singles right now because it's well worth your time.
See how this all affects you.
