A Beautifully Honest Single from Avery Kotler
A new single release from Avery Kotler delivers a very unique breed of honesty as she lets out her inner thoughts in the form of a refreshing and sort of vast pop tonality and the whole thing comes with a lush and robust character that I feel is the thing you end up getting attached to the most.
"fault line" is the type of song that makes you think and can cause memories of your own to pop into your head at any given time simply because it comes from someplace very real and she's very descriptive with the lyrics in the track.
This is a great combination because it takes you out of where you are and puts you in a different place and even though you know the song wasn't yours or wasn't written for you, there's a part of you that feels like it makes perfect sense. Almost like the song could have served as part of the soundtrack to a certain chapter in your own life rather than hers.
This to me is extremely connective and I absolutely love it.
Her songwriting and the arrangement and production of this track is outstanding from top to bottom. It takes elements of an almost vintage 80s style pop undertone and brings them into a current platform by way of adding orchestrated elements, guitars, and just this sense of a building and intensity throughout the song.
By the time you get halfway through the track, there are string synth pads and all kinds of notes that are sort of floating through the ether of the song and before you know it, you're in this whole other atmosphere and it's amazing to me that a song can build that in such a short period.
Vocally, Avery does an outstanding job simply because she keeps things a little bit subtle and not too over the top. This is the type of track where she could go off if she wanted to and hit a trillion notes in one line but I'm glad that she doesn't because that's not the kind of song that this is.
You can hear this song in the soundtrack of a 90s romcom and I adore this aspect about it because that's part of what wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants to.
There's an emotional drive behind it that helped build the song in the very first place and that is very clear and evident when you listen to this track.
You can tell that there was some great attention to detail during the creation of the song but there's a lot of heart and a lot of personality and those are the things that really linger on after the song is over along with a great hook that bounces around in your head for hours on end.
The only way to satiate that by the way, is to go listen to the song again.
I feel like Avery gave a little piece of herself with this track and even if it doesn't make sense as the soundtrack to a chapter in your life, it's evident that this is most certainly the soundtrack to a chapter in hers and it was very warm and welcoming for her to let us into that.
She painted very vivid pictures and definitely got me hooked.
I for one will be paying a lot more attention to Avery Kotler in the future and I think after listening to this song you will too.
